Weekly Comments #31

This week was pretty good. First off we got to start a week with a field trip, it made the day go by and was pretty awesome. I'm also finally just about caught up with all those tutorials so that's good. I'm finally looking forward to being done with all these demos, I know they're necessary but there were just so many I just can't wait to have more work days again. That being said the only thing that I didn't enjoy this week were the demos, oh and that not so great Chinese food at the plaza during the field trip.

Here's The Link Of The Week:

The video this week is from a channel called The Slow Mo Guys. This is one of my favorite channels on you tube and they have just recently put up a video of a fire tornado in slow motion. They have the sickest cameras I have ever seen, they are insane. The picture is so good and the motion in general is so good it almost looks fake with how good it looks, but I assure you it's real. I think this is great and I look forward to more in the future.

Serious Time #60 Homemade Ambient Sound

This article/video talks about all of the ways you can record good quality sound from your camera. In the video they use a shotgun mic. to get good sound with there camera. They also explained the 3 different types of sound to record and how to do it. The types were transient, evolving, and speech. Transient Sounds happen quick and end abrupt, Evolving Sounds persist through out, and Speech just involves voice. After that they explain that perspective is one of the biggest aspects for good quality sound. The way perspective works isn't just how loud or quiet something is, but instead you should record at different lengths for variation instead of lowering it in a sound editor like audacity. You then combine all of the sounds in post with your video and you have some quality sound with your video relatively cheap.

This article/ video was great. I thought the video was very easy to follow and not to convoluted. I also thought the information in this article/video was also very helpful for the future. I mainly took away from the perspective lesson, I thought it was a great easy way to get high quality sound with different variations. Since the article was straight forward and relatively easy to follow I do not have any questions about this article/video. This article/video was about the video side of Digital Media. Overall awesome article/video.

Serious Time #59 Let's Go "Inside Out" Video Response

Video Response:

Sorry this may be a min. or two late the upload took longer then expected.

Serious Time #58 BLOOD!!!

Have you ever wondered or even ever wanted to make fake blood for one of your productions? Well now you can! The history of this all began in 1894 at a french theater called The Grand Guignol which was famous for their horror productions, it was here where fake blood started getting attention. They made this blood by mixing Vegetable Glycerine, Red, Yellow, and Blue Food Coloring. When black and white movies became a thing people like Alfred Hitchcock and George Romero would use chocolate syrup for blood, perfect with its thick and oozy texture. In color movies they substituted the base and changed the mixture a lot. They call this variation Kensington Gore, it includes golden syrup, food coloring, water, corn starch, and some peppermint extract, it's a little sticky but at least it tastes okay with its peppermint extract. Some thought that this version was too red so a man by the name of Dick Smith came up with this method that is now used widely throughout modern day. This mixture is made with corn syrup, water, food coloring, coffee creamer, liquid lecithin, and yet again peppermint extract for taste. Finally there is the clean up and for this you can use shaving cream as it keeps it from staining and also moisturizes the skin.

I thought this video was great. The video was very interesting and will come to be very helpful in the future when making films. I just really like how it showed many variations at cheap price to make blood. In my opinion the only bad part about this video was that it was just a little long, that being said though I didn't mind as it just gave more info. so I guess it's bitter sweet. The article was very straight forward as well which made it super easy to understand. I would say this sides with more of the film side of Digital Media. Overall awesome article.

Weekly Comments #30

This week was pretty cool. I got all caught up with my work after being sick which is good. The shots that Geoff and I got look a lot better than I thought they would after the editing. The idea that Geoff had worked a lot better then I thought it would, which is great. All we have to do now is shoot the second one which will happen soon. I also got Netflix this week and got into this exclusive show which I think is pretty cool called Hemlock Grove, it's interesting thats for sure. Im happy that we got a lot of work days this week cause I definitely need those. Right now I think I am just really looking forward to the Villa Maria trip we are going on very soon because I am really interested to see there video major and get more info. about it. Another plus is that nothing really bad happened yet this week, knock on wood. Overall pretty great week.

Here's The Link Of The Week:

The video this week is from that show I talked about called Hemlock Grove. It's a pretty good show I think but I like weird stuff like this so I don't know. But anyways this is what their take on a werewolf transformation is. I think it's pretty cool but a lot of people are pretty mixed on it. Either way tell me what you think!

Serious Time #57 Animation Jobs

This is another video blog. Sorry about the black bars for some reason couldn't fix it. Enjoy!

Serious Time #56 Awesome Pictures!

This article goes through how to take really eye catching photos. It does this by going through 9 different composition techniques. It starts with the most important of all of them, Rule of Thirds. This alone will almost always make your shots look more interesting. Lines are also a factor you can take into account as they can lead the viewers eye where to look. You can also use diagonal lines to show movement. The article also goes into patterns and repetition which is visually pleasing to the eye. The cool thing is that if you break a pattern it makes for a really interesting and unique photo. Symmetry is also a very appealing image to the eye giving balance. The article goes into others such as Framing, Figure to Ground, Filling the Frame, and Center Dominant Eye. They then conclude the article by stating that in the end once you know all of the rules you can break them, as rules are sometimes meant to be broken.

I really enjoyed this article. It was very interesting and enjoyable to read. I agree with all of the techniques on the list and personally use them in photos I take. I can say though that I never knew about the Center Dominant Eye one, this one seems really interesting to me and I will definitely try this one out in the future. The article itself was also really straight forward leaving me with no questions about it. This article pertains more to the video side of Digital Media. Overall great article.

Weekly Comments #29

This week was okay. That is other then the fact that I got sick! I hate getting sick there is just nothing good that comes out of it. But once I got better the week did as well. I am pretty happy with me and Geoffs progress on the PSA because we have finished shooting the first of them which is good. Halloween wasn't that great though it was just very boring and honestly just didn't feel like Halloween, so that kinda sucked. I now starting to look forward to more video projects in the future like the Documentary. Much else didn't really happen this week.

Here's The Link Of The Week:

The video is one that my friend made who runs a channel called Not Alive Music. He has been running it for quite sometime and has been doing a great job with it. He recently showed me this the other day and it is now one of my favorite mixes to listen to. I hope you enjoy the tunes!
