Weekly Comments #33
This week was pretty good. A lot of awesome things have happened this week. I finally learned that the role I got in the school musical, The Little Mermaid, is Scuttle so that's pretty exciting. I also finally got done with our schools Children's Theater production, which I am pretty happy that it's finally over because it was starting to get annoying to do. I finally got around to doing my college application for Villa Maria as well. Nothing bad really happened this week. I am just looking forward to working on the explosion project, I think I have a really good idea for it so I am excited to see how it turns out. Oh and also Christmas needs to happen now! Overall pretty good week.

This is Rocket Jumps new Hulu original series called Rocket Jump The Show, where you get to see them behind the scenes try to make the 8 best short videos on the internet. This is easily one of my favorite shows right now they are on episode 3 and it is great. You just get to see how people on a budget do certain things and stuff they have to overcome, the best thing I have taken from the show is that everything doesn't go according to plan. I just can't wait for the fourth episode this Wednesday. I highly recommend that you watch this show it is great.
Serious Time #64 Lessons from a 2-D Animator
This weeks article focuses on a traditional 2-D animator called Jay. Jay started out through the training program at Walt Disney Feature Animation and was mentored by Eric Larson, one of Disney's Nine Old Men. Jay then learned from him his first big lesson in animation, posing and action. He made the mistake of making his drawings so detailed that he forgot to make them seem more alive. From this he learned about the line of action, making the character move fluid and more lively. He then said the next thing he learned was thumb nailing which is a form of pre planning like a story board but specifically for posing, making each one more meaningful and lively. In the end he says everything is easier with pre planning.
This was a good article I really enjoyed reading his story and insight on the behind the scenes experience. I already learned about this in class, that being said I don't have any questions about this article. I thought the way he explained himself was very relate able as well. There weren't any downsides in my opinion on this article either. Overall great article.

Serious Time #62 Transitions
Transitions can be a great tool in film and should not be disregarded as unimportant. They can make your film so much more unique and powerful. This video follows someone who made a film with many great transitions and he gives tips and insight on how he does things. He starts out by saying how great it can be to pull off transition where the two pieces of film aren't similar, he says while hard this can make a whole new experience for the viewer. He also states that transitions should be close to seamless when done in post. Another tip that he gives is to have motion in your transition as it is easy to find and nice to look at. One thing that isn't overlooked is sound design. He says good sound design is so important that it's better to have crappy footage and good sound, it can make the viewer feel certain emotions and can even make them more immersed and involved in the video. He finally ends off by saying that it is very important to treat your transitions and sound as its own art form and to spend a lot of time on it to really perfect it.
This video was really cool. I loved the way they explained transitions and actually showed really interesting examples instead of giving you crappy ones, it really helped visualizing what they were trying to make their point on. I also thought that the video was very well thought out and they touched on a lot of important subjects that can really help peoples film. That being said it was very straight forward. There are also not any downsides I could find in this video. Overall great video.

This week was pretty good. I have finally finished my tutorials and am now working on my typography. I'm just happy that I am finally done with step by step things for the time being and can be more creative with my projects. One thing that sucked this week, and will suck the following week, was the shadowing. Its just cuts into your work time and can get really monotonous, but I do understand why we do it so I am just looking forward to that being over with. I think most of all, like a lot of people, I am looking forward to Christmas (I am getting an xbox one yay!). I am also looking forward to shooting some film for my documentary.

There was a pretty big reveal at the game awards this week, Psychonauts 2 is coming. This is crazy news which I honestly thought would never happen. This game was great when I first played it and I have heard that it has aged well through out the years and is still good. It is just such a unique and crazy game and I am very much looking forward to playing this when it comes out. The only downside is that they are crowd funding it and there goal is 3.3 million dollars, but hopefully it is not a scam and it turns out great in the end!
Here is the link for the crowd funding website if you are interested: https://www.fig.co/campaigns/psychonauts-2
