Serious Time #43 Demo Reel Do's and Don'ts

To get a job in the animation industry is a challenge. One key part in the hiring process is your demo reel. For some people their demo reel can either make or break them. Here are some do's and don'ts on demo reels. To start off only have your best work in your demo reel, be as honest as you can with yourself when reviewing your demo reel. Another thing you should do is wow them at the beginning and the end, put what you feel are your two best works and put one at the beginning and one at the end. You should also keep in mind of the rhythm of the demo reel with the highs and lows in it, making a good order of clips in the reel can make it feel more engaging. Also make sure to include a portfolio of different stuff just as icing on the cake. A couple things not to do are having a 5-10 min. demo reel, keep it short 1-2 min. tops. Another thing to keep in mind is not to flood your reel with fancy transitions and titles, the focus is on the animation and you do not want any distractions in the process. Keep these tips in mind and your demo reel should be great.

This article was pretty good. The article brought up a lot of good points and facts that will definitely in the making of my demo reel. On the other hand though we already did learn about some of if not all of these things. That being said I don't have any questions about the article. This article pertained to the animation side of Digital Media. Overall solid and helpful article.
