Serious Time #36 "Neourocinema"

In a brain study people were exposed to a 30 min. viewing of "The Good The Bad and The Ugly" afterwards scientists studied their brains to find something interesting, they found that the participants reacted the same way at certain scenes this may not seem like a big deal, but it can be. If you think about it directors don't just direct the movie, but they also direct you. The directors are put up to the task of directing the viewers emotion and feel throughout the entire movies choosing when they should be horrified, happy, sad, excited etc. In a way it can be seen as brain washing, it's a leap to conclusions, but it can be seen as that. Think about it if a movie can provoke your emotions do you think it can provoke your actions or change the way you think or even make you do something you don't intentionally mean to do. Kind of scary right? This is a possibility but that is all it is. So next time you go to watch a movie just ask yourself this "Am I being brainwashed?'.

O.k. I have some ranting to do so please bare with me. This whole brainwashing thing is just a crap shoot, all the article does is tell you about certain things that happened to certain people that's all. This is my perspective, they could have tested 100 people and only 5 of them thought the same way and that's what they put in this video. The issue with the facts that they brought up is that they are not facts! For all we know they could just be coincidences. Even if we could jump to the possibility of brain washing the director would have to predict how every single person who watches the movie is going to feel at specific times, and at the moment that is not possible you cannot make every single person feel the same way during a movie because of the fact that people are too diverse. For example, if me and a friend both watched a horror movie, my friend could be terrified but I on the other hand might not think it was not that scary. This is what I'm saying, since humans are so diverse you cannot possibly come up with a movie that makes us all think the same way at least not yet you can't. Okay now that that's over I can get on with what I thought about the article. To your surprise I actually enjoyed it. The reason being it was interesting and thought provoking and it brought upon I feel a good debate. I understand some points in the video but they are not good enough for me to agree with them. That is just me though.  This is more on the video aspect of digital media. Overall Intriguing article.

You know what here:

If you want to help me with an experiment watch this video and say what you think about it down below. But don't or try not to read or listen to anyone else's opinion, just write your first reaction and we will see how many are the same and how many are different. I will even participate.

  1. I felt tense watching through this. At the end I was caught off guard, even a little startled.
